Uptime Institute, a division of The 451 Group, announced earlier in August the passing of Ken Brill.
Ken Brill was the Founder of the Uptime Institute (1993), the Site Uptime Network (2011), and Uptime Users Group (now known as 7X24 Exchange International). Brill's work extends back to 1985 through his firm, Computer Site Engineering
Brill’s thought leadership in the data center space about dual power, the Tier system (evaluating and classifying data center facility performance), data center productivity and energy efficiency has influenced many.
Mr. Brill received Lifetime Achievement Awards from 7x24 Exchange International and Datacenter Dynamics.
He patented his idea of Redundant electrical power source, distribution and consumption system in 2000, but was not interested in profiting from it.
In 2009, Network World named him in a list of “10 people you should know in tech.”
He held an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Redlands and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. Mr. Brill also received an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Redlands.
Brill passed away at the age of 68 because of cancer.
