Are Employees Putting Your Company’s Data at Risk

With flexibility come security risks associated with intellectual property and company data. Clearly, the need to distribute data externally and do so quickly is growing.

The loose distribution of sensitive data is definitely becoming commonplace.

A survey done by IPSwitch, FTP software organization, includes of reasons employees are putting sensitive data into other applications where IT has no control over what happens to it:

* Third-party mail is faster and has fewer restrictions than corporate email tools

* For use in next place of employment

* Find it difficult to connect to work email when outside of office

* IT doesn't monitor what they're sending via personal email

Here are a few strategies worth considering:

* Protecting organizational data is team effort and requires focus on education, security intelligence and awareness.

* There should be no one size fits all approach to reigning it in.

* IT leadership must have regular, strategic meetings with Sales leadership and stay on the same page.
